With premonition of the impending doom awaiting their people, in the twilight of the Ottoman Empire, Sarkis’s parents compelled their only son to leave his home and beloved Kayseri to face the lesser dangers of the outside world. Aged 18, Sarkis embarked on a journey that would lead him into the unchartered territory of Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, where he would lead the exciting life of a pioneer, learn the skills of an entrepreneur and offer himself to public service. His children commissioned this biography as a testimony to his life and as a family record for his already numerous descendents.
